Skin type: Combination. Pale.

I wasn’t shouting it from the rooftops, but I did enjoy using Olay Detoxifying Vitamin C & Black Charcoal Scrub. Right away, let me say that I don’t recommend it for daily use. While it claims to be suitable for daily use I found that it dried out my Combination skin when using it every day. Over-exfoliation is a real problem and I don’t think anyone needs a daily scrub. What I like to do is keep it in the shower and use it once a week. That way I can rinse it off easily.

The Charcoal in this Olay Scrub provides a gentle exfoliation, it’s not painful or uncomfortable, but you can definitely feel the result afterwards. It has a gel-lotion like consistency that spreads easily. The scent is a simple vitamin C Citrus type smell. It’s not bad, but I didn’t really enjoy the fragrance either.

The claims of 5-in-1 on this Olay Scrubs bottle are definitely a marketing gimmick, the five things listed are all things you’d expect from a Vitamin C scrub. Despite that, though, it’s a good all round scrub that will remain in my shower for once a week use and I’d recommend it as such!

Olay Sensitive Skin calming facial Moisturizer is a sensitive skin moisturiser that’s great for daily use and I really enjoyed it that way. It’s no secret that I think pretty highly of Olay. My mum has used them her entire life (just a simple Olay Moisturiser and nothing else) and her skin is fantastic. They are reasonably priced and don’t charge a premium for leaving out the ‘nasties’ like some companies! They’ve been my go-to daily moisturiser for years when I’m not testing.

Olay’s Calming Facial Moisturiser is a great moisturiser for day use for those on a budget. I love that it’s fragrance-free and smells of nothing but a pleasant ‘cream’ smell. Since it’s non-comedogenic it doesn’t block pores and it’s also free of oils, dyes, silicones and parabens. The SPF is an added bonus as it will protect from the sun’s hidden rays during Winter, and Fall. In Summer and Spring, you’ll want an extra sunscreen when going outside.

The consistency is also perfect for me as it’s thick, but not too thick; spreadable, but not watery. It feels pleasant on the skin and absorbs quickly without any greasiness.

Over my time using it, I did notice an improvement in my skin, though I do always breakout a little when switching products. Olay’s Skin Calming Moisturiser and it’s Hungarian Water Essence left my skin feeling fresher and much, much softer.

Overall, I found this Sensitive Skin moisturiser was fantastic at softening my skin and had a brilliant user experience with good consistency and no fragrance. I’d recommend it without hesitation especially to those on a budget.

I had the chance to try the coconut cashew cluster bar from Iron Vegan, and I really enjoyed it. The bar had a very nice taste and texture to it, and it was a very filling snack without being too high in unwanted things like sodium or sugars.

Compared to some protein bars I’ve tried, these have a much smoother and less chalky texture to them which was much more enjoyable to eat. The flakes of coconut on top add great flavour and some extra crunchy texture to the otherwise smooth protein bar. I was worried the flakes of coconut would fall off and make a mess, but they seem very firmly attached and none fell off. The bar itself is smooth and a bit creamy, but it doesn’t crumble or fall apart when you bite into it. It’s not as thick or chewy as some bars I’ve tried, but I don’t consider that a bad thing. I want a protein bar that I can eat easily while on the go or while working, which means it has to be easy to eat without making a mess, I want it to taste good, and I don’t want to feel like there’s a heavy brick of protein in my stomach when I’m done.

These protein bars are extremely high in fibre (16g) and have a substantial iron content as well (20% of your daily requirement. Each bar also contains just 220 calories, despite being very filling.

Overall, I really enjoyed this bar and would certainly encourage others to give it a try!

You can buy Iron Vegan Sprouted Protein Bar at your local health store for $39.99 (for a 12 pack).
